Tsunami & Hurricane Go Bags

Tsunami & Hurricane Go Bags

5997483724382916242.jpg

As we live on the islands of Hawaii, we always need to be prepared for Mother Nature – hurricanes, Tsunami’s and more!  I was just sent another reminder that I need to update my bag for baby since she is now here.  If you haven’t read the news within the last hour an 8.0 Earthquake hit off Chile and a long range Tsunami is being evaluated to see if Hawaii will have a Tsunami warning or watch.  You can go HERE to read the report from KITV News.  Thanks to KITV news for the pic!

As couponers we will usually have many of these items laying around in our homes so make sure you make time to pack some of these items you will need for emergencies in a duffle bag, plastic bin, backpack or any other method for easy access.

What I would include in your Go Bag:

  • Water
  • Canned Foods with flip tops or remember a can opener
  • Tuna Pouches
  • Body Wash
  • Hair Care
  • Toothbrushes & Toothpaste
  • Couple rolls of Toilet Paper
  • Couple rolls of Paper Towel
  • Plasticware
  • Paper Plates
  • Flashlight
  • Battery operated radio
  • Batteries
  • First Aid Kit
  • Change of Clothes for each person
  • Games to entertain (deck of cards)
  • Blankets

Can you think of anything else that is essential for a Tsunami or Hurricane to go bag?

Clean out  your pantry, cabinets and stockpile of items you will not use.
Bring the items to the Grocery Swap and swap for other items.
Please bring only non-expired unopened items.  Bring any items that are sold at a grocery store and in its original packaging.
Example of items to bring:  Dental Floss, Baby Formula, Travel size items, canned goods, shampoo, body wash, razors, samples, and more..

If you have a folding table or card table that you can bring to help, it would be very appreciated.

Also, looking for volunteers to help count, sort, and set up the Grocery Swap Items!  If you can volunteer, please arrive at 8:30am.  All volunteers will be placed at the top of the list to pick items first during the Grocery Swap!

How it works:

  • For every non-expired unopened full size item you bring you will receive ONE entry to pick ONE item from the table(s).
  • For every non-expired unopened  Travel or Trial size items you bring you will receive ONE (1) entry for every two (2) travel size.  Travel size is Three oz or under.
  • For every non-expired unopened  sample size items you bring you will receive ONE (1) entry for every two (4) sample size. Sample size is one time use.
  • You will be placed in a line and when it is their turn you will get to walk around the table.  No long stops along the way! When one person is half way around the table the next person will begin. Take your item or items along the walk around the table(s). Once one person exists the next person will begin.  Since this should be faster we will do 1 item, 2 items, 2 items, 5 items, 5 items at a time until you are tapped out.   Also please note that the Grocery Swap will last 2-3 hours!  You must arrive before 10am to join the festivities.  We arrive at 9am to start counting and checking expiration dates.  Anyone that joins after 10am may or may not be able to join.  Remember this benefits all of us, so any ideas or feedback are greatly appreciated.
  • Also, this Grocery Swap we will have an expired items table.  We will do this at the end for those one or two items that were over looked and have expired.  Some people are comfortable with using expired products while others or not.  So this is at your own risk.  Again the expired items has to be unopened new products.
  • This is a FREE, kid friendly event.
  • To participate you must bring items as described above.
  • If you have any questions email hawaiishopaholics@yahoo.com
